ITER Agreement only 30 days from entry into force

On Monday, September 24, 2007, China officially ratified the ITER Agreement. Ambassador Tang Guoqiang, China's permanent representative to the United Nations in Vienna, submitted the ratification letter signed by the Chinese President Hu Jintao to the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Mohamed El Baradei.

All the seven ITER Parties have now ratified the ITER Agreement which was signed in Paris in November last year. In 30 days the ITER Agreement officially enters into force, thereby the ITER Organization establishes.

The first ITER Council is due to convene on November 27 and 28, 2007 at the Chateau in Cadarache.
