The Physics Integration Field
Task areas: Bulk Plasma, Operation, Plasma Edge, Heating & Current Drive, Diagnostics
The work in the Physics Integration Field addresses several different subjects. The first is to give support on
issues of Plasma Physics to the JET Scientific Programme, in cooperation with EFDA-CSU Culham and its Task Forces.
The main task is to help define a relevant scientific programme for JET, in support of the needs of ITER.
A second task is clarifying the physics of the ITER-device, in collaboration with the ITER International Team.
The data provided by European fusion experiments are used as a basis to extrapolate to the operating parameters of
ITER, and to provide the necessary information for the engineers who have to design the machine.
Thirdly, the Physics Integration Field supports the
Power Plant Conceptual Studies,
for which it defines the physics parameters (such as fusion power generated and size) of the commercial fusion
power plant that is used as the basis for the studies.
Finally, the field addresses activities related to control, heating systems and diagnostics, which are all part of
the Technology Programme. All this work is ITER-related and it addresses specific needs required by the ITER
International Team.
