The Magnet Structure and Integration Field

Task areas: Conductors, Coil System, Power Supply and Cryoplant, Load Assembly Integration [[posters]]

This very wide field includes the R&D on superconducting materials and components, the integration of the magnetic system with the rest of the machine, both design and R&D of the power supplies and the design of the cryogenic plant. The European industry has been extremely active in acquiring the know-how to build the magnets for ITER i.e. by gathering expertise in the production of strands and cables, jacketing of the cable in conduit conductors for both the Central Solenoid Model Coil (CSMC) and the Toroidal Field Model Coil (TFMC), and building the TFMC. The complete fabrication equipment for both the Toroidal Field and the Central Solenoid conductors have been set up and are available in European companies. The Associations have accompanied the industrial effort through the design activities and a series of developments and tests. Existing European facilities, such as Sultan (CH) and TOSKA (D) are being used for the tests.
