EFDA-Garching
The EFDA Close Support Unit in Garching is the base for three different functions. First of all, it is the
location of the EFDA Leader, who is in charge of the overall EFDA Management
and is responsible for ensuring that the objectives defined for EFDA are fulfilled, according to the given
guidelines. He manages the local Administration Office, the Public Information Office, Project Control
Unit, the Physics Integration Field, and the Socio-Economic activities
for fusion.
Secondly, EFDA-CSU Garching is the location of the EFDA Associate Leader for Technology
. Under his guidance the Technology Programme for the whole European
Fusion Programme, including the Long-Term Programme for a demonstration reactor, is defined and managed. The
Associate Leader for Technology is responsible for the Fields and Projects
which coordinate the tasks in the Technology area, including the European ITER Site Studies
(EISS) in which the several aspects of the ITER site in Cadarache are
studied, and the
Power Plant Conceptual Studies, which aim at defining
the design of a future commercial fusion power plant.
The other two locations of EFDA are Barcelona in Spain,
and Culham in the UK.
